Sunday 14th March looms ahead for all those feverishly preparing their artworks for the latest exhibition. Pencil, painting, sculpture, and all elements of mixed media are the clay being molded by our aspiring artists.

Who will win The Spoon? Will another man (or boy) step up to the plate and make it two-in-a-row for the blokes of the world? Neil was our first man winner, finally breaking through the glass ceiling to take out the prize for the his spaceship submitted to the Monsters & Aliens exhibition. Time for Neil to hand back The Spoon, and start working on his next exhibit.

Will one of the up-and-coming-young’uns pip all at the post to take out the coveted spoon this time?

Children are imbued with a sense of the iconic, so perhaps they have an advantage?

Will Cameron, Dom and Jonno bridge their disappointment from coming second and find the courage to put in an extra effort this time? Will Angie do another night-before, last-minute entry to take out The Spoon as she has so cleverly done in the past?

Will the winner focus on a place, a building, a person, a phrase, a possession, a thing of value or some innocuous nothing that shouts social comment? Flair and style can turn heads but the court of popular opinion is a fickle friend, and even the pillars of society shake at the prospect of exposing themselves to the whim of the mob.

Once again prizes will rain down on all and sundry – even if they may retain their plain and tawdry persona from exhibitions past. The Big Auction following the event should be fun and challenging – who wouldn’t want to walk home with a classic or an icon, picked up for a pittance?

As usual, we completely underestimated the creative thought processes. Everything from stone compositions through to wildflower displays, with some impressively detailed work being done by some (Neil!).

So far, i’ve come up with a few little ideas. They seem to predominantly be based around some form of statue or 3D piece. Maybe i’m thinking too big, so for the moment, it’ll be a matter of sitting down in the sun somewhere with a pencil and notepad, trying to put some form on my monster…
